Sexual Immorality




         "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, thou shalt not commit adultery. But I say unto you; that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after hath committed adultery with her already in his heart". Matthew 5:27-28
         "Not that which goes into the mouth defileth a man, but that which cometh out of the mouth thus defileth a man". Matthew 25:11

A.      What is sexual Immorality
         The Dictionary defines "SEXUAL" as concerning see or the sexes or the sexual organs; the physical attraction between male and female.
         "Immorality" is defined as the state or quality of being immoral, character or conduct that violated moral principles. Ephesians 5:5
          "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind". 1 Corinthians 6:9
           In general terms, sexual immorality in the Bible relates to adultery, fornication, bestiality (man and woman), prostitution, sodomy or homosexuality, lesbianism and gay, and all other sexual acts that go against God's laws.

B.      How Does God see Sexual Immorality
         In the beginning, God gave laws to guide man as seen in the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20:1-17) verse 14 says expressly "Thou shall not commit adultery". This commandment prohibits all unlawful sexual relationships and upholds the sacredness and divine appointment of marriage for the propagation and multiplication of the human race.
       "Neither shalt thou commit adultery" Deuteronomy 5:18.
         When Jesus came, He shed more light on God's law, standard and expectation (Matthew 5:18). With continual longing with the mind made up to the act, if at all possible.
        "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth be any man. But everyman is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren". James 1:13-16. It becomes a state of the heart and is as deadly as the act itself (1 Samuel 16:7).
        "And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and gets put into the drought, purging all meats? And he said, that which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulterous, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man". [Mark 7:18-23]
         "An adultery is not just the act, but even the thought of it" (Matthew 15:19).

C.      Results of Sexual Immorality
§          Defilement: Matthew 15:19-20, make dirty and pollute.  Defile not yourself with idols, bestiality and adultery (Leviticus 18:20, 23; Galatians 5:19-22; Ezekiel 20:7-8, 18, 32). Enmity with God, for His regards sexual immorality as sin.
                "Ye adulterers and adulteress, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever, therefore, will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God". James 4:4.
                 As a Christians we must do away with anything that will make us become enemies of God. Not only being enemy of God, it will also make us to lose our focus of what will intends to become.
I.        We must be free from the cares of the world (Matthew 13:22, like 21:34-36).
II.      We must be delivered from the world (Galatians 1:14).
III.    Escape the pollutant and corruption of the world (2 Peter 1:4, 2:20).
IV.    Overcome the world (1 John 5:4-5).
V.      Be not conformed to the world (Roman 12:2).
VI.    Be dead to its ways (Colossians 2:20).
               Becoming an outcast among men, endangering of life because of the various venereal diseases and even HIV/Aids that might curse.
               The judgment of God – 1 Corinthians 19:5-10; Hebrew 13:4. Hell fire – Revelation 21:8

D.      How to stay away from Sexual Immorality
§           Keep God's word in your heart. (Psalm 119:9-11). Do not yield to temptation. Each victory over sin and temptation will strengthen you against another track (1 Corinthians 10:13). This verse gives assurance of the eternal keeping of God in all temptations provided we obey the warnings of verses 1-12.
                      No one can be kept from a fall, if he persistently refuses to meet conditions. Our standing depends upon our faith and Union with God and steadfastness in prayer and in continuous obedience to the Gospel (Genesis 2:17; Deuteronomy 8:11-18, Proverbs 1:10-17; Matthew 13:22; Luke 8:13).
§           Stay away from evil companions. Evil communication corrupts good manner (1 Corinthians 15:33). Resist the devil (James 4:7b).
                 God giveth more grace to the humble.
                 He (God) will draw nigh to you.
                 He (the devil) will flee from you.
                 He (God) shall lift you up.
§  Fellowship and be friends with people who believe God's Definition of Sexual Immorality (Proverbs 27:17). As hard iron or steel will sharpen a knife, so a man may sharpen the intellect and the moral and spiritual life of another.
§  Pray always and do not think you are not easily harmed or attacked, even if you are the pastor of your church. (1 Corinthians 10:12) This verse concludes the warning against backsliding and following the examples of Israel (Vs. 1-12)
§  Do not give evil thoughts a place, mind the kind of books you read and the films you watch. You are what you feed your mind with (James 1:13-16).
§  If some have been victorious, so you can! (2 Samuel 23:10-12; 1 Samuel 17:37-54). Does your conduct or dressing cause others to commit adultery in their heart? Then, do something about them.
                    "And it came to pass, after the year was expired at the time when kings go forth to battle; that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an evening tide that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself, and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, is not the Bath-Sheba; the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her, and she came in into him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house". (2 Samuel 11:1-4)
                   If we consider the passage, David commit adultery with the woman and also killed her husband Uriah.
                    "...  And he wrote in the letter, saying set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten and die" (Vs. 6-15).
                 David is not able to control his eye gaze and not knowing that the foolish act will terminate his kingdom, family shattered and sons die: None of them (his children) able to reign after him.
                 
 Adultery David committed make him lose focus and lead to the act of murder in which he receiveth the penalty and the punishment from God.
             Sexual Immorality can hinder us from being focus and wipe away our glorious future career off from our sight. That is why David yell and squeal "Open my eyes, that I may see the wondrous things from your law. Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in your way" (Psalm 119:18, 37).
             To teach believers on how God sees All Sexual Immorality and how to stay away from it.
