In continuation of the above topic
‘’ Check your status”, I hope the
Lord has ministered His mind to you and made His word known to you. I will like
to take today’s lesson from the book of Judges Chapter 14: vs. 1-4 “And Samson
went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a
woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for
me to wife. Then his father and his mother said unto him, is there never a
woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou
goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his
father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well. But his father and his mother
knew not that it was of the Lord, that he sought an occasion against the
Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel”.
The greatest problem of mankind from the very start is the
inability to control one’s eye gaze. Nothing else destroyed the
life of our fore father, but this eye gaze destroyed them even till this
present moment.
Let us visualize some of the
people in the scripture who was affected by this so called eye gaze, including our bible text.

Eve
(Genesis 3:1-3)
‘Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the
Lord God has made. And he said unto the woman. Yea, hath God said, ye shall not
eat of every trees of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may
eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which
is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it neither
shall ye touch it, lest ye die’.
What gives our enemy
chances over us is nothing but the controversy that is existing between us. The
commandment has been laid down and there is no room for doubt or double – minded
state in twisting or deviating from the word of God to suit your purpose.
Giving room for controversy between you and your adversary gives him a slight
privilege in overcoming you, unless you break the conversation between you.
Even it happens to Jesus our Lord, when the devil is tempting him. Perhaps care
is not taking, devil might lure in overcoming Him, but Jesus renounce him by
saying “Get behind me”.
The first mistake our
mother makes is lengthen the conversation with the serpent and not strongly
sagacious in knowing the trick and the tactic the serpent is using in
questioning her.
‘And the serpent said unto the woman, ye shall not surely die: For God
doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and
ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the
tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be
desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave
also unto her husband with her; and he did eat’. The serpent blindfold her from
knowing the deep things of God, rather she is not able to control her eye gaze
till she ate the fruit from the forbidden tree and also disobeyed the word that
God has uttered.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was
pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of
the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he
did eat.
What the devil use most time to encamp us is our inability to
control our eye gaze which lead to covetousness – one of the work of the flesh.
Every word that proceed from the mouth of God is certain and sure no
doubt in it, but our problem is that we find it easily to deviate from what God
instruct us to and not to do. When God commands or give instructions, He expect
us to pay total obedient and patience in fulfilling it. No matter what might
happen on the way or the kinds of trial that might arises in order to quench
the word that has been proclaimed from the mouth of God, since God has spoken
and you have heard Him clearly – you don’t have to surrender for such trials to
overcome or twist the commandment of God from you.
Note this: What God dislike
and count has sin, God cannot intend to reveal it to you either through vision,
dream, and revelation or elsewhere to do it.
Consider what happens to this
young and old prophet: God gave commands to the young prophet not to eat nor
drink and it happens this fateful day, after God has proved Himself through the
young prophet and people has testified to it in return of the old prophet. The
mistake the young prophet made is for letting them to know what God commands
him not to do ‘’do not eat nor drink’, and the old prophet use it against him
to conquer him by saying “that same God who has spoken to you not to eat nor
drink has spoken to me, that you should sojourn and tarry in my house to eat
and drink and he did has the old prophet said – not thinking twice whether by
questioning God ‘that why not making it known to me while through this old
prophet, not knowing that God speaks once – next thing for you to discern who
is speaking to you either through someone or any other means’ and that’s the
reason God doesn’t take mercy or compassion for his death”.

David (2
Samuel 11:1-3)
And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings
go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all
Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But
David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an evening tide that
David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and
from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful
to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, is not
this Beth-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And
David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with
her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her
house.
When you come across
any circumstances or trials or lust of the flesh, don’t look nor think of the
pleasure in it at the present; but think of the grief and sorrow that will
result unto at the latter end.
David doesn’t think of what it might result unto, what he want to lay his
hand into – not because he doesn’t know, but of the eye gaze which has been captured
and attacked by the beauty and the lust of the flesh, which makes him to lay
with her to commit adultery – what God’s hate and dislike.
This deadly heart brought about lie and murder which result to
destruction of his kingdom, for none of his sons ruled after him, even the
first son of the woman died, and he was penalized (suffered) for it. Nothing in
life elude the eye, everything in this life has to do with our eye – in order
to behold and know what to do; but the problem lies in our inability to control
it – making us to sin against God and in disobedience with his word.
From our text “And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she
pleaseth me well”. ‘So then they that are in the flesh
cannot please God’. Not everything your eyes see should please you!
Check your life, business, ministry and your family and career; is it not the
desire or the lust of the eye that brought you where you’re now and the
suffering you’re battling with. God has proved Himself for us by giving us His
dear begotten son to die for the propitiation of our sin.
Jesus also come across the lust of the eye, but He overcomes it in
respect of anything, but the help of God through His word. ‘And when he had
fasted for forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. And when the
tempter came to him, he said, if thou be the son of God, command that these
stone be made bread. But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word that proceed from the mouth of God... to be continued later... stay bless..
